Daniel Fast | 21 Days | NJICM | Richmond, VA

New Jerusalem International Christian Ministries will participate in the Daniel Fast!

Fast Dates: Monday, January 14 through Sunday, February 3 (ending at 12 noon, or after Sunday worship)

  • What is a Daniel Fast?
o The Daniel Fast is a biblically based partial fast. It is a method of fasting that men, women and young people all over the world are using as they enter into the spiritual discipline of prayer and fasting.

There are two anchoring scriptures for the Daniel Fast. In Daniel 1 the Prophet ate only vegetables (that would have included fruits) and drank only water. So from these scriptures we get two of the guidelines for the fast:
1. Only fruits and vegetables
2. Only water for a beverage

Then in Daniel 10 we read that the Prophet ate no meat nor any precious breads or foods and he drank no wine for 21 days. So from this scripture, we get a third guideline:
3. No sweeteners and no breads

Another important guideline is drawn from Jewish fasting principles, where no leaven is used during the fast. So that's why yeast, baking powder and the like are not allowed on the Daniel Fast.

Finally, with all the above puzzle pieces, we conclude that no artificial or processed foods nor any chemicals are allowed on the Daniel Fast.
Be sure to read the ingredients on labels of prepared foods to make sure they only include Daniel Fast friendly ingredients. http://www.daniel-fast.com/about.html

  •  Service Times
o Sundays 8 & 11 a.m.
o Mondays (Jan. 14, 21 & 28) 7-8 p.m. Prayer and Teaching with time for questions and answers concerning prayer and fasting. We will also be using (as a point of reference) the book, "Fasting," by Pastor and author, Jentezen Franklin.

o Wednesdays 7:00 p.m. Prayer and Praise, with teaching by special guest.

o Sunday, February 3, 8 & 11 a.m. SHOUT TO THE LORD CELEBRATION (Heb. 11:30), special Tithe offering. Tithe on what you believe to make weekly (or every other), this year! We agree that it will come to pass! This is also "Souper Bowl" Sunday. We ask all that can to bring in a can of soup to help feed the hungry. Thanks for your support!

  • YOUTH!
Parents and Youth Leaders are encouraged to include ALL youth in this time of fasting. If only for certain days during the week, encourage no sweets, soda, (only water and juices) video games, limited TV time, and no movies. Let them know that this is NOT a punishment; this is the way WE, as the Body of Christ, get closer to Him and gain strength to do ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST! Phil. 4:13.

  • Focus
o Spending quality time WITH God
o Incorporating Godly principals into all you do in life, family, business and/or school
o "Corporate Worship" This is a corporate fast, not a individual fast. Coming together is
not an option, it is a MUST. Joel 2:15-17,Heb. 10:25

  • Goals
o Renewing our relationship with God
o Creating a holistic move toward serving God, Mind, Body and Spirit.
o Living a healthy life. "Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be
in good health, just as it is well with your soul." 3 John 1:2 NRSV
o Greater discipline
o Power, to defeat the enemy! "And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by
nothing, but by prayer and fasting." Mark 9:29 KJV

Grand Opening of the NJICM Prayer Trail!

New Jerusalem International Christian Ministries Officially Opens Prayer Trail

Nov 27, 2012 By The Belle

TBR — Richmond, VA — Bishop Joel Brown and the church family of New Jerusalem International Christian Ministries (ICM) kicked off the grand opening of “The River Walk Prayer Trail”, now recognized as one of the first of its kind along the East Coast and the first Prayer Trail in Virginia.

Covering just over a 2.5 mile stretch over 38 acres of land, church members trickled in throughout the day to see, walk and run portions of the trail for themselves that included a fire pit, a quaint bridge crossing and various long and short trails.

“The River Walk Prayer Trail” is located at 8100 Cogbill Road (at the corners of Belmont & Cogbill Rd’s) and officially opened on Saturday, November 24th with Bishop Joel Brown, the pastor of New Jerusalem ICM leading the way.

Bishop Brown says, “What better time to open the trail and invite the community to see what God is doing at New Jerusalem while also walking off the turkey and stuffing.”

Surprisingly some of the most active participants walking the trails were the Senior Saints, who called the trail location, “relaxing and peaceful.”

Bishop Brown says they will be adding benches, seating areas and activity zones for kids and family members to relax in during the coming weeks.

Let’s keep Bishop Joel Brown and Chief Apostle Olive C. Brown in prayer as they continue to grow their church, congregation and their new “River Walk Prayer Trail”.

NJICM Women's Ministry Book Club | The Crossing by Lady Serita Jakes

Book Description:

Imprisoned by memories, Claudia Campbell lives each day in the shadow of a ten-year-old murder. Who can set her free?

On the way home from a football game, a decade earlier, a masked gunman opened fire on a Texas school bus. Cheerleading coach B.J. Remington was killed, but her murderer was never found. Claudia, who had a close friendship with the young, spirited teacher, constantly relives the anguish of that day, caught in one moment in time. When her husband, the assistant district attorney, becomes determined to uncover the mystery of that tragedy, the secrets buried over the years threaten to tear their family apart.

Officer Casio Hightower will never forget the day his dreams were destroyed. A star quarterback with a promising future, Casio was on top of the world—until one bullet changed everything. He is eager to help Victor Campbell find B.J.’s killer, the man who shot him. Maybe solving the case will help silence the demons driving Casio to hurt the woman he loves.

"My Family" by Taylor aka ~Angel~

Having a family is GREAT! My family is awesome because they always make me laugh. When I am not feeling well or not happy they will cheer me up. The people in my family I think are funny is Phillip my cousin, Ry Ry, Bethany, Brittany and my Mom. We have so much fun hanging out together. I feel so sorry for the kids that are out there in the world without a family or clothes. I am so lucky that I have a family that loves me and is funny. Sometimes we may fuss and disagree but in a real HOT second we are cool again. I just feel so safe because of my family I'm especially glad to have my three big brothers (Micah, CJ and my favorite brother Da'Vaughn). Da'Vaughn makes the whole family laugh. Family is important to me and I am thankful for the love and support they give me. I am so blessed and I thank God for my family and friends.

You know, having a family is the best thing that ever happened to me.

Shout out to Taylor, NJICM Youth Blogger!

Inspirational Words for Ministers & Pastors-

RUN WITH THE REVELATION!

Amos 3:7 (amp) Surely the Lord God will do nothing without revealing His secret to His servants the prophets. No mater how bright the day, or dark the night, always be open to allow God to reveal His will for your future to you.

NOTHING HAPPENS until He reveals it.

1 ) What scriptures motivate you in your leadership role?
Exodus 13:14 KJV. Leading so that our children and the generations to follow will have a better day, and if they ask why, we can say, “By strength of hand the Lord brought us out…”. Nehemiah 4:6 The PEOPLE must have a mind to work! Lastly, Matt 16:18 because we are connected to something greater than us or what we try to do for others. It’s all about His church that the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

2) How should Ministers/Pastors keep balance in their life?
O.I.R.

Outlet: have fun, lose yourself in worship, do something good for yourself, family and others. Always try new things.

Income: Always have money, ideas, new people, and dreams and visions (revelations) “coming in”.

Reset: never be afraid to push the reset button and start all over again. Even if its on the same old project. Sometimes hitting that reset button is the only way to get unstuck, to be able to move ahead.

These three little words (in action) will surprisingly bring about great balance in your life, ability to love and your future.

3) What is an inspiring quote that you have heard/read recently?
“Some people change when they see the light, others change when they feel the heat.” Carol Schrader
